What are
they? |

Domains are the 'addresses' of the Internet, and are
used to point to a particular Web Site. This
is what you will normally type into your Web Browser
when you want to look at a Web Site, and usually
takes the form www.something.com where the
'something' is a name, title, or descriptive text.
The
advantage of having your own Domain is that it
personalises your Web Site, otherwise you have to
use or share a Domain Name which may have little
resemblance to you or your enterprise.
Cost
for Domains are quite small, and depend on the
Registrar (the organisations that issue Domains).
The most common Domain based on .com we can
provide for €15, and is an annual fee. For
Irish Nationals, Residents, and Businesses, we
recommend the .ie Domain, however, the Irish
Domain Registrar requires some validation as to the
authenticity of the Irish connection before they
will authorise the issue of .ie Domains, and
they are more expensive. We can provide
(subject to approval) .ie Domains for €25,
again payable annually.
There
are a range of alternative Domain types, of which
the most common are .org .net .biz and
.info. For most purposes, the .com
or the .org is suitable.
Domains are subject to availability, i.e. they are
not already in use, and this can be easily checked.
If
having a personal Domain is not essential, we can
provide shared Hosting on our irishhorseweb.com
Domain. This means that you can choose a name
which is added to this Domain to make a unique
address, such as mywebsite.irishhorsewebs.com,
and we can advise on the pros and cons of this if
you are interested in Hosting your Web Site with us. |
